MEET THE TEAM

Meet Rico

Dr. Rico Buchli
Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Immunology
Director of Research
Vice President of Products and Services

Dr. Buchli joined Pure Protein L.L.C. in 2001 and is currently applying his expertise in Immunology and Biochemistry as the Director of Research and as the Vice President of Products and Services. His work is essential to Pure Protein’s ongoing development of soluble HLA technology. The study of HLA has grown increasingly important in the fields of infectious disease, cancer, and transplant rejection. Dr. Buchli possesses decades of experience with HLA and hopes to standardize its use across these fields.

Appointed by the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the approval of the U.S. Department of State, Dr. Buchli also serves as the Honorary Consul of Switzerland. He is a member of multiple committees, including the Oklahoma Governor’s International Team (OKGIT) and the Advisory Committee of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition.

Dr. Buchli received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Basel, Switzerland in 1996 and served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Davis until 2001 before accepting a Research Assistant Professor position at the University of Oklahoma, Health Science Center. As a recognized authority in his field, Dr. Buchli has been published extensively by some of the leading international, peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Biochemistry, Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, Cancer Letters, Journal of Immunology, as well as others. He is the recipient of the Albert M. Kligman Award in Dermatology and The Journal Record’s On the Brink Innovator Award. Dr. Buchli is also a co-inventor on multiple International and U.S. patents.

Meet Fred

Dr. Ying-Yu Fred Wu
Microbiology & Immunology
Manufacturing Manager

Dr. Wu joined Pure Protein L.L.C. in 2017. As an Immunologist with more than 20 years of experience, he is currently applying his broad technical expertise to the manufacturing of HLA proteins at small, medium, and large scale. In addition to being a production and purification expert, he is also involved in antibody and HLA matrix coupling; the conjugation of HLA with biotin and fluorophores; engineering of HLA peptide complexes; and T-cell peptide epitope validation and screening. Being responsible for sHLA quality control, Dr. Wu employs many immunoassays to confirm the integrity of HLA protein products. Dr. Wu also has extensive experience in flow cytometry techniques currently applied in the development of tetramer products for B cell and T cell detection.

Dr. Wu received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the National Yang-Ming University of Taipei, Taiwan in 2005.
